Now, before we get into this tennis fitness tip, let me ask you something. Have you ever been in a tournament or exhibition situation where you played a very long, hard-fought match and gave it everything you had…

…Then, you won. But afterward, you felt like you had absolutely nothing left in the tank for the next round and the next opponent?

I mean, your muscles were so sore, you could barely lift the Gatorade bottle. Your mind was completely exhausted, and your legs we’re telling you, “NO GO BUDDY.”

Been There?

Yeah, you do all that hard work then, B-O-O-M! You’re like, “This is how I’m rewarded for my hard work?” What a bummer, right?

Yeah, it really sucks. But listen, don’t sweat it. The answer to reversing this feeling isn’t that difficult to execute. In fact, the solution to enhancing your tennis fitness (…so you don’t feel as drained) just may rest in something as simple as what you drink in between your matches.

Now, when I say that, you probably would immediately think Gatorade or Powerade, since those are great ways to help replenish your electrolyte levels, right?

Well, while good for you, it seems those may not be your BEST answer. New studies show that your best bet to obtaining the endless energy that you had when you were 10 (…where you could go all day and all night… and all day again without a rest) is to drink like ten year old. Huh?? Let me explain .

Researchers at the American College Of Sports Medicine are now reporting that low-fat chocolate milk can help you get your “groove” back (…and increase your level of tennis fitness and conditioning), even faster than the highly marketed sports drinks you see endorsed by million dollar athletes.

How did they figure this out? Science, what else?

They recently conducted a test with a group of advanced level soccer players to see how they performed while downing this cocoa-filled wonder.

And what they found was that the ones who drank chocolate milk while involved in very demanding and intense workouts had far less muscle damage than the ones who drank your average sports drink.

Now, you might ask, “How does milk help us exactly?”

According to Natalie Digate Muth, MD, MPH, RD, registered dietitian and recent graduate of the UNC School of Medicine, it helps a tennis player’s recovery in 3 very important areas.

3 Awesome Ways Chocolate Milk Can Bolster Your Tennis Fitness and Recovery Time:

1. Muscle Increase: Milk is loaded with amino acids which help aid in muscle growth (…and increased overall strength). As a result, this very well may even help you add more punch to your shots like your forehand, backhand, serve, volleys, AND overhead smash.

2. Turbo Healing: The whey protein found in milk is known to speed up the healing of injuries and worn out muscles. So, you won’t feel as physically “beat up” after a great win. And you’ll be able to face your next opponent with some real “gusto.”

3. Mood & Tennis Confidence Boost: Whey protein in milk can also help you increase your mood, both while playing *AND* after a match. When your mind is clear and your tennis confidence is booming, it’ll definitely show in your strokes. Yeah, you can really become a tough tennis player to beat.

All that being said, try switching it up in your next match. Break out the Ovaltine and blend it with the Cow’s wonder tonic for your next after-match beverage, and see how you feel. You just might be “giddy” with excitement about your next win, instead of aching in pain!

I guess now, the real proof is in the chocolate (…not the pudding)

- Have a good one.
